We are wanting to gather evidence on wage arrestments in Scotland, as we believe they are having a detrimental effect on 10,000s of people each year and the Scottish Government can change the law to reduce that detriment.
In 2020-21, the Scottish Government said £27.5 million was recovered by Scottish Local Authorities using 35,000 successful arrestments. This means the average (mean) arrestment recovered £785.71, or £65.47 per month. This means the average wage of those who had an arrestment was only £910 per month. This is evidence that arrestments are affecting the lowest income households.
This is especially important during this cost-of-living crisis.
